Families play vital role in senior living communities

By: Country Meadows | Uncategorized

The presence and participation of family can make a major difference in the lives of seniors residing in retirement communities. Though our residents enjoy and appreciate the fellowship of friends they make here, most also have strong family connections that they value and want to nurture during senior living at Country Meadows.

Writer and historian Alex Haley said, “The family is link to our past, bridge to our future.” This philosophy is reflected in Country Meadows’ intentional engagement with residents’ families. As a retirement community in Pennsylvania and Maryland that is family managed and owned, we truly understand the importance of family relationships. That’s why we encourage families to be involved in our community life.

All of our senior citizen living options—senior independent living communities, personal care homes, assisted living facilities and memory support services—are designed to promote family involvement and interaction with our residents.

To foster family togetherness, we offer various spaces to families for special functions and observances. Our private dining room, spacious indoor common areas, outdoor common areas and chapels are available for families to use. In addition, we welcome family members to dine here with their loved ones and to attend educational lectures, concerts, holiday meals and picnics, as well as special off-campus programs.

During the December holiday season, we host a party for residents and family members, complete with dinner and entertainment.

From time to time, we hold some very memorable, out-of-the-ordinary, family-focused events. For example, at our retirement home in Bethlehem, we conducted a group renewal of wedding vows for ten couples, including a party with champagne toasts and cake for family and friends.

Many families wish to remain involved by helping out with day-to-day activities like doctor’s appointments, financial affairs and health care decision-making. An area where family participation is especially helpful is the initial move to our senior community. At Country Meadows, we encourage relatives to assist with moving, decorating the new living space and helping their loved ones to settle in to their new place. This support can help make new residents more relaxed and comfortable during the transition.

When choosing a retirement home, be sure to visit the senior living communities that are of most interest to you and ask how they encourage family life. We welcome you to visit our Pennsylvania and Maryland retirement communities. Please contact us to request information or to schedule a visit.
