A classic Christmas song proclaims, “It’s the most wonderful time of the year,” and it certainly looks that way at all of the Country Meadows retirement communities in Pennsylvania and Maryland.
Our halls have been decked and lights have been strung to celebrate the season of peace and goodwill. The Country Meadows staff takes great pride in beautifying our senior living areas, dining rooms and hallways with festive holiday decorations for the enjoyment of our residents and their visitors.
Our employees also pay special attention to their daily interactions with residents over the holiday period, knowing that for some, the holidays can be a difficult time. Memories of past holidays with loved ones can lead to feelings of loneliness, even when surrounded by caring friends. That’s why we offer so many varied activities throughout the holiday season-we want residents in our retirement homes to enjoy the current holidays with their families and the friends they have made at Country Meadows.
Many ways to celebrate
Throughout December, you will find our senior living communities to be centers of bustling activity. Particularly popular are our many musical opportunities, ranging from caroling and sing-alongs for residents to guest musical performances. Among other holiday-themed activities are cookie baking, preparing Christmas cards, various arts and crafts, storytelling and book readings, classic movies, and trivia, bingo and word games.
For those who like to venture out into the cool, crisp air to get in the holiday spirit, we offer tours of area Christmas lights and shopping trips. And, of course, Christmas at Country Meadows isn’t complete without a bounty of delectable holiday meals and treats prepared by our culinary staff.
Holiday card contest
A highlight for many residents this year is our fourth annual Holiday Card Art Contest. Nearly 50 residents of our independent living communities and personal care homes designed and entered artwork. The winning design, Jack Hyde’s winter scene of a beautifully decorated home, graces the cover of the 2015 Country Meadows Christmas card. Along with 10 other finalists, it is also featured on a holiday poster displayed at each of our senior communities.
The contest has uncovered some hidden talent over the past few years. Some of the artists, including Mr. Hyde and last year’s winner, Evelyn Martin, had never painted or drawn before coming to Country Meadows. The availability of classes here has provided them the opportunity to discover a talent they didn’t know they had. That’s the beauty of life in a retirement community-you can find yourself doing and enjoying something you never envisioned before-and mastering it!
