At our York-South (Leader Heights) campus, residents learned all about the rich history of Groundhog Day and celebrated with “Groundhogs in a Cup”—decorated Nutter Butters in pudding! 🐾🥄 A fun and tasty way to honor this unique tradition.

Groundhog Day has a fascinating history, dating back to the Celts and the celebration of Imbolc, right between the winter solstice and spring equinox. ❄️🌱 It also ties to Candlemas, a Christian tradition where people brought candles to church to be blessed, even inspiring a poem about whether winter would last longer or spring would arrive sooner.

Over time, Germans began watching animals like hedgehogs to predict the coming of spring, and when German immigrants arrived in Pennsylvania, the tradition shifted to the groundhog. The first official celebration was in Punxsutawney in 1887, and now tens of thousands gather to see what Phil will predict!

Our Mechanicsburg campus hosted a Ladies Luxe Lounge, and it was the perfect afternoon of relaxation and self-care. 💆‍♀️💅 About 15 residents enjoyed chair massages from licensed massage therapist Abigail Charles, along with manicures and soothing face and eye masks. It was a calm, cozy time to unwind, be pampered and enjoy each other’s company. A wonderful afternoon all around.
