One key advantage to retirement and senior living is more time to devote to activities that you love or have wanted to try, if only you could fit them into your schedule.
No more excuses. Now is the time.
Whether you remain in your own private residence or have moved into a retirement home community, you have a wide variety of interests to chose from as you contemplate how you want to spend your time. The ones you pursue may depend, in part, on your health, but there is something for everyone who wishes to truly enjoy senior citizen living.
At Country Meadows Retirement Communities, groups of people meet regularly because they share a passion for a particular hobby or want to learn a new skill. Some groups meet on their own, while others are led in retirement community activities by members of our staff. While most programs are available at all of our senior living communities, a few may currently be available at just some locations because residents there have expressed interest.
A recent overview of our 10 locations showed the following activities with groups meeting on a regular basis or for special programs: art, baking, bicycling, current events, dancing, devotions, exercise, flowers, games (board, card, word), gardening, golf, karaoke, pets, plants, poetry, puzzles, reading, singing, swimming, trivia, volunteering, walking and yoga.
The Retirement Hobbies website lists a number of popular activities along with informative articles about many of them. The website says researchers have found that retirees who get involved in hobbies are happier and generally live longer.
At Country Meadows, we see how hobbies bring together seniors who share interests, resulting in more opportunities to socialize but also improved physical and mental health. Please refer to our tip sheet listing the social benefits of a retirement community where hobbies are encouraged and freely available. Activities are open to all persons who can physically participate, whether they live in a senior independent living community, in assisted living or in personal care.
When choosing a retirement home, be sure to visit the senior communities that most appeal to you and ask what activities they offer. We would welcome your visit to our PA retirement communities or our Frederick, Maryland location. Please contact us to request information or to schedule a visit.
