What makes for good food at our senior living communities? Nourishment, variety and great taste

By: Country Meadows | Uncategorized

When the subject is food, seniors who reside in retirement communities are the like the rest of us. They want the choice of foods that they like—freshly prepared, nutritious and great-tasting—shared in fellowship with friends and family.

That’s why, said dietitian Gretchen Robinson in the online magazine LeadingAge, many retirement homes have adopted an open dining philosophy, extending the hours for eating and empowering residents to select foods they like.

We serve our seniors a variety of healthy, fresh meals served restaurant-style, and their eating enjoyment and comfort level make them feel more at home. That’s the “food philosophy” at Country Meadows Retirement Communities, and it applies to those residing in our independent living communities and personal care and assisted living homes, as well as those receiving memory support or restorative care services.

Our daily, chef-prepared meals feature recipes using fresh ingredients, locally grown produce and regional flavors. The varied menu gives our residents the freedom to select items based on their dietary needs and personal preferences.

They can choose from several featured entrees at each meal. Dinner includes additional choices of baked seafood, chicken breast and a vegetarian selection. For a special culinary treat, they may order from our Elegant Entrees gourmet menu—lobster tail, filet mignon, lamb chops or scallops—any night of the week.

A salad bar with fresh vegetables and fruits is always available. Bread and rolls are baked daily by our in-house bakers, along with an array of inviting, delicious desserts. Also, fresh fruit, cookies, juices, coffee and tea are available throughout the day and evening.

One Country Meadows resident described the food here as “incredible and a great choice for each meal: healthy, well balanced and extremely well prepared.”

Each Country Meadows campus also offers the convenience of either a Bistro café or an At Your Service program. The Bistro is available for residents to enjoy at their leisure. Our dining team prepares hearty soups, fresh salads, burgers, build-your-own sandwiches, grilled specialties, delicious sides, and breakfast entrees served at any time. The Bistro is ideal for those who wish to invite guests for lunch or want to sit and have a quiet and light meal while they chat with friends.

At Your Service provides flexibility for those times when residents want to enjoy breakfast or lunch earlier or later than the standard dining room hours. With At Your Service, they may place an order and arrange to pick up a meal at a time that is more convenient for them.

Seniors at Country Meadows can also enjoy socializing at themed dining events throughout the year and at regular happy hours. Those who would like to host family and friends in a quieter, more intimate setting may reserve a private dining room.

The best way to get a true taste of dining at Country Meadows is to join us for a meal at any of our 11 campuses at your convenience. Please contact us to schedule a time for you and a few friends or family members to stop by for a meal.

If you’re thinking of choosing a retirement community, we hope you will take a look at any of our senior living communities in Pennsylvania or Maryland, where you will find residents engaged in a wide variety of retirement community activities in a family-oriented, caring environment. Please contact us for information or to schedule a tour so that we can acquaint you with our complete range of services.
