Summer day trips are close to home for residents of Country Meadows Retirement Communities

By: Country Meadows | Uncategorized

From Pittsburgh, PA to Frederick, MD to Easton, PA, our Pennsylvania and Maryland retirement homes are located within an easy drive of historical, cultural and entertainment destinations.

The close proximity of these sights is a bonus for residents of our senior communities and their out-of-town families and friends who are visiting them at Country Meadows. Following is a list of our 11 retirement communities, from east to west, and just a few of their nearby attractions that are located in Pennsylvania cities or among rolling hills and valleys.

South Hills of Pittsburgh, PA – Carnegie Museums; Pittsburgh Zoo and PPG Aquarium; National Aviary

Frederick, MD – Roads and Rails Museum (miniature railroads); National Museum of Civil War Medicine

Mechanicsburg, PA – Gettysburg Battlefield (35-minute drive); Rolls-Royce Foundation Museum

York-South and York-West, PA – County snack factory tours (five); Agricultural and Industrial Museum, Harley-Davidson factory tour; Central Market House (farmers’ market)

Hershey, PA – Hershey Gardens; Hersheypark and Hershey’s Chocolate World; Indian Echo Caverns

Lancaster, PA – Amish Country; Landis Valley Village and Farm Museum; Dutch Wonderland; Lancaster Central Market (oldest farmers’ markets in the U.S.)

Wyomissing, PA – Mid-Atlantic Air Museum; Crystal Cave; Kutztown Folk Festival (first week of July)

Allentown, PA – America on Wheels (road transportation); Lehigh Valley Zoo; Dorney Park and Wildwater Kingdom

Bethlehem, PA – Christkindlmarkt (mid-November-Christmas); National Museum of Industrial History; Sands Casino

Forks in Easton, PA – Crayola Experience; National Canal Museum; Easton Farmers’ Market (oldest outdoor farmers’ market in the U.S.)

These are just some of the historical spots, educational tours and entertainment destinations that are available within an easy drive of our 11 retirement communities. All our campuses are near colleges and universities, too, which offer public lectures and concerts. Residents, as well as friends and family members of all ages, can always find plenty to do, whether they’re looking for excitement, relaxation or culture.

“Best places to retire”

Two of our retirement communities are located in cities that have been named among “the best places in the United States to retire” by Forbes, the financial publishing and media company. Forbes granted that designation to Pittsburgh, the City of Bridges, in 2015 and 2016 and to Bethlehem, Christmas City USA, in 2017. Both cities were cited for their cost of living, median home price, number of physicians per capita and walkability, as well as other attributes.
