Americans are getting older. By the year 2060, the number of people over age 65 in the United States is expected to nearly double, creating an increased demand for affordable senior living.
Many people are concerned about the cost of living at a retirement community. However, affordable senior living may be easier to find than you think.
All-Inclusive vs. à la carte rates
Country Meadows offers affordable senior living by providing an all-inclusive monthly rent. All-inclusive rates mean that residents pay a flat fee every month which includes the apartment, heating, cooling, electricity, weekly housekeeping, maintenance, transportation, activities, entertainment, meals and care services. (Meal option varies per level of care.) The all-inclusive rate is determined by many factors prior to move-in, including the amount of care required and apartment size.
Less affordable senior living communities charge rent as well as separate charges for each individual service. In other words, à la carte. This option charges a flat monthly fee for rent, and each additional service comes at an extra cost. For example, an hourly fee to provide personal care services such as bathing, dressing, managing medications and providing meals. This model is harder to plan monthly expenses as an individual’s bill will vary from month to month. If more services are required during a particular month, the bill may raise substantially.
Cost of affordable senior living vs. staying at home
At Country Meadows, our team members find that most families are not fully aware of the daily, monthly and yearly living expenses they are paying to keep an older loved one at home versus an affordable senior living community. When evaluating monthly mortgage or rent, utilities, car maintenance, home repairs, housekeeping, meals, entertainment, gas to appointments and many other home-related expenses, people often find Country Meadows to be surprisingly affordable and, at times, less expensive than current costs to live alone. All-inclusive rates in a single monthly bill remain consistent, eliminating the hassle to pay multiple bills to many different vendors.
To help, we created this convenient tool to compare retirement community living costs with current living expenses.
Elegant, enjoyable living at an affordable price
Affordable senior living does not mean dull and bland surroundings or inferior care. Many retirement communities such as Country Meadows provide a wide range of lifestyle options and apartment styles on beautiful campuses with elegant common spaces, dining rooms, fitness centers, libraries and outdoor amenities such as walking trails and game courts. A vibrant dynamic living program offers social events, entertainment, arts and crafts sessions, outings as well as fitness classes and personal training.
Neighbors who become friends
Loneliness can lead to depression and anxiety in older adults, especially among individuals who live alone. When seniors interact and connect with other residents in retirement communities, it helps provide a positive, happy mood helping with emotional stability and strength.
Affordable senior living gathers older adults who share similar experiences and memories. As neighbors get to know each other, they can become friends, participating in and sharing hobbies and attending outings and entertainment. At Country Meadows, our Friendship Suites can help residents ease the transition into community living and save on costs by sharing accommodations.
