Every year, the Leader family selects original artwork to be the cover of the company holiday card. After years of resident participation, the opportunity turned to the co-workers. For the contest, all Country Meadows co-workers were invited to submit original artwork, using any medium, that highlighted the theme of gratitude. More than 20 co-workers showcased their artistic abilities in their pencil drawings, paintings, digital art, crochet and even poetry.
After careful deliberation, Debby Moyer’s acrylic painted winter landscape, titled “This is a Wonderful Day,” was selected as the card cover art. Debby has been a member of the Country Meadows of Bethlehem Dining team since March 2022 and enjoys the freedom and creative expression that she is able to explore through painting. She created “This is a Wonderful Day” while taking a “Paint Like Bob Ross” class—as you can see from the signature “happy little trees.”
“About the green tree in the foreground…when it’s a happy little tree all by himself, it’s just in time for the holidays. He’s going to stick out!”
The painting is inspired by Debby’s childhood memories—the quiet moments when you would wake up in the morning and you can actually hear the snow. It’s fresh and untouched—perfect for a little bit before the cars and people go about the busyness of the season. There was also the excitement that would build on the drive to her family’s sledding trips in the fields near her home.
“There is a simple beauty to the outdoors,” described Debby. “It’s these small and meaningful moments that often get lost in adulthood.”
Her winter landscape depicts a sense of calm but also a great sledding hill!
When talking about the artwork, Debby reminisced about her and her family’s night-time sled rides with a smile. Going down over-and-over again in the toboggan was an adventure and core winter memory that has endured.
Thanks to the encouragement of her fellow co-workers, Debby’s art is celebrated as she shares the lesson of finding gratitude in the simple things and going back to the childhood joys that make the season magical.
Showcasing Co-worker Talents
In addition to being compassionate and dedicated co-workers who go above and beyond to support our residents and their families all year, many are also gifted artists! It is always special when we get to showcase the talents and passions that they focus on in their own time. We appreciate and commend all co-workers who submitted their artwork this year.
