As a high schooler, Ella began her time at Country Meadows Retirement Communities as an intern through her vocational technical school’s co-op program. After graduating from Dauphin County Vo-Tech last year, she was hired full-time as a maintenance technician on the Capital Projects team. In this role, she works with all of our campus communities ensuring our residents have a safe comfortable and well-landscaped setting to call home.
“I love how every day is different. I love facing different tasks and learning new things every day,” described Ella. “I’ve learned electrical, plumbing, landscaping, masonry and so many other skills. This company also has an amazing staff. Everyone is so nice and polite here, always going above and beyond for each other.”
Whether making repairs, ensuring buildings are up to code or helping the campuses look their best, Ella’s focus is to provide better living for our residents, with safety as the top priority.
Through Practice Random Acts of Kindness Month (celebrated every April), Ella merged her education and professional skills to support building the Kindness Bound Libraries. As a physical representation of the PRAK 2025 theme: Kindness in Community, the Kindness Bound Libraries are where kindness and books come together. In these libraries, residents, co-workers, families and visitors donate books with special meaning to them and place in the library with the kindness bookmark to inspire a future reader. The library name was inspired by how we all are bound to be kind and kindness is bound in these donated books.
In addition to the libraries that Ella built and painted, students and members of the Milton Hershey School’s Carpentry and Construction Pathway program, the Northampton County 4-H Service Club and Girl Scout Troup 20397 also shared their talents and kindness with our nine campuses and our not-for-profit organization Ecumenical Retirement Community by making each a library.
“This month is about bringing the community in (to our campuses) and sharing our kindness with them,” Ella said. “Acts of kindness can bring communities closer.”
