Country Meadows to transfer ownership of its Lancaster campus to sister company Providence Place Senior Living

By: Country Meadows |

Country Meadows Retirement Communities announces it will transfer ownership of its Lancaster campus to sister company Providence Place Senior Living effective Jan. 1, 2021.

Both Providence Place Senior Living and Country Meadows Retirement Communities were founded by former Pennsylvania Governor George M. Leader and his wife, May Jane. Gov. Leader founded Providence Place in 1998 when he retired as Country Meadows’ President & CEO. Like Country Meadows, Providence Place is wholly owned by the Leader and Janeczek families with the sole focus of operating senior living communities.

Country Meadows President & CEO Michael Leader says the decision to transfer ownership was primarily based on the campus’ small size. “Providence Place communities are approximately the same size as the Lancaster campus, and as such, their company is better suited to manage a smaller facility both in terms of levels of care and overhead. Basically, it is a better operational fit.”

With capacity for 103 residents, the Lancaster campus is less than 40% of the average size (236) of Country Meadows’ other senior living communities.

Leader adds, “Another factor is that our Lancaster campus mortgage is due to be refinanced in 2021, making this is an ideal time to implement this change. It is rewarding to know our Lancaster campus will remain under family ownership and experienced leadership well into the future.”

Providence Place has more than 20 years of experience offering high-quality personal care, assisted living and memory care at its six locations:  Chambersburg, Pottsville, Drums (Hazleton), Collegeville, Pine Grove and Dover (York).  Their mission, values and operating philosophy are very similar to Country Meadows and the executive team also operates in a similar culture and family atmosphere.

Leader says, “My brother, David Leader, served as Country Meadows’ Chief Operating Officer and was well prepared to take on the role of President and CEO of Providence Place when our dad passed away seven years ago. Several members of the family sit on the board, and I serve as Chair.”

David Leader notes, “We are really excited to get to know the residents and co-workers of Country Meadows of Lancaster. Providence Place is committed to the same values as Country Meadows and we feel our aging-in-place philosophy will fit the Lancaster community well.”
