“Anna” came to our Lancaster community to be part of our Memory Support Services program when her husband felt he could no longer care for her completely on his own. Though they still shared a unit, he had an unusual challenge with Anna’s daily routine that he asked us to help him solve. He had become aware that she was not bathing as regularly as she should, even though she insisted that she was. His reminders and suggestion appeared not to be working. After some creative brainstorming, our Lancaster team came up with the idea of presenting her with a “Spa Day award” that included soaps, perfumes and other pampering items, plus a personal concierge to administer the pampering. Anna was thrilled as she exclaimed she never won anything in her life. She couldn’t wait to try them and talked of feeling special for the attention she had received. The problem was solved, and life was better for Anna and her husband. She now enjoys using her spa items on a regular basis.
“My mother has dementia and my father does not. They have been married for 63 years and wanted to stay together. He had been caring for her at home. Everywhere we looked, they would take her but not him. We could not find any retirement home in Lancaster that would let them come and live together where she would get the care she needs and he would be completely independent, until we found Country Meadows. There’s another couple in the same wing now in the same situation. Country Meadows in Lancaster works to be extremely accommodating to the needs of their residents.”
