Community members invited to attend free health and fitness classes targeting type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and senior fitness

As part of Country Meadows Retirement Communities’ mission to serve as a community resource, fitness classes targeting type 2 diabetes, Parkinson’s disease and senior fitness are being offered free-of-charge at our Mechanicsburg campus. Information on each class follows on this page.

Join us for our FREE Delay the DiseaseTM class led by Country Meadows certified OhioHealth Delay the Disease fitness team.

Classes begin Feb. 20 and meet Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 p.m.

The nation’s leading Parkinson’s disease fitness program, OhioHealth’s Delay the Disease, improves the physical, mental and emotional realities of individuals living with Parkinson’s disease or similar symptoms by helping to delay the progression of symptoms. This national wellness program is designed to retrain the mind and body and targets daily functional challenges and symptom-specific fitness agendas. Exercise plans are adapted to all levels of the disease, valuable to newly diagnosed and progressed states alike.

 

The program delivers symptom-specific exercises that optimize function and restore independence. Nationally, participants have experienced improvement in mobility, posture, balance, handwriting, speech volume and a reduction in daily functional challenges. The classes are a source of fun, social camaraderie and hope.

 

 

Join us for our FREE Prevent T2 community class led by Prevent T2-certified Fitness Director Renee Harlow, Lifestyle Coach of the National Diabetes Prevention Program.

Classes begin Monday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. and meet once a week for 16 weeks

If you have type 2 diabetes, prediabetes or other risk factors, it’s time to take charge of your health. The Prevent T2 lifestyle change program can help you make lasting changes to control or prevent type 2 diabetes. This proven program can help participants make modest lifestyle changes and cut risk of type 2 diabetes by more than half. Prevent T2 is part of the National Diabetes Prevention Program, directed by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

SilverSneakers® Classic and Range of Motion

Classes meet Wednesdays and Saturdays at 10 a.m.

Designed to increase muscle strength, range of movement and improve activities for daily living, this class is targeted to help older adults improve their fitness level. A chair is used for seated exercises and standing support. The class can be modified for various fitness levels.

SilverSneakers® Yoga

Classes meet Mondays and Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m.

Get ready to move through a complete series of seated and standing yoga poses. Chair support is offered so participants can perform a variety of seated and standing postures designed to increase flexibility, balance and range of movement. Restorative breathing exercises and final relaxation will promote stress reduction and mental clarity. This class is suitable for nearly every fitness level.
