Country Meadows Retirement Communities is finding new ways to use technology at its campuses.
Our latest hires at Country Meadows of Leader Heights in south York are dining associates, Ricky and Lucy. All they do is go back and forth between the kitchen and resident tables, not saying a word to anyone. That’s good, because Ricky and Lucy are robots!

Ricky and Lucy help their fellow dining associates by assisting with food delivery. The robots are used to transport orders from the kitchen to customers’ tables and return dirty dishes. No one is losing their job as Country Meadows is using the technology to free up co-workers to spend more time with residents and help them with their duties.
“The robots bring the entrees out onto the dining floor, they actually take them right up to the table,” says Dining Director, Ben Gordon-Country Meadows of Leader Heights. “The [dining associate] doesn’t have to go back to the hot line at all. They can spend all that time with the residents.”
Country Meadows is piloting the robots at one campus. So far the feedback has been good, meeting the organization’s hope for co-workers to have more time to interact with residents at mealtimes. Also, Ricky and Lucy help reduce the number of steps each co-worker must take to help them finish their shifts less exhausted.
Residents say Ricky and Lucy are helpful. “I’m not surprised at anything anymore,” says Sarah, a Country Meadows resident. “Science is so fast and they do things so thoroughly.”
