Lancaster Community Life

We know that living life to its fullest means many things to different people. Our goal at Country Meadows of Lancaster is to help residents enjoy a full, happy and healthy life.

Our extensive community life program plays an important role in the daily lives of residents. Residents make friends, explore new hobbies and continue lifelong passions. With a full array of social events, spiritual enrichment programs, recreational activities and lifelong learning opportunities, residents can be as engaged in community life as much as they want to be.

Country Meadows residents enjoy an active and social life. From card games to dances and parties, country rides to shopping trips, lunch at local restaurants to a family picnic outside, games and movies to a quiet fireside chat; there is always something to do on our community calendar. And it's not just for residents. Friends and families are encouraged to check our event schedules and consider joining us for a meal, activity or an event.

Country Meadows spiritual life programs are designed to both empower and provide support. We welcome people of all religious and cultural backgrounds and embrace an inclusive interfaith approach to spiritual care. Each Country Meadows community has a full-time Chaplain who offers pastoral counseling, conducts religious services and is available for residents’ spiritual needs. In addition to the on-campus ecumenical and interfaith religious services, Country Meadows provides opportunities for residents to attend worship services in the local community.

Country Meadows places a high value on wellness and fitness for its residents. Physical activity helps keep seniors energetic and independent. Each Country Meadows campus has a fitness coordinator who promotes healthy lifestyles for residents with individual and group programs.

  • Fitness activities include Tai Chi, gentle yoga and exercises designed specifically for seniors.
  • Walking Clubs promote independence, balance and endurance and provide an opportunity for residents to raise money for the Alzheimer's Association or the Arthritis Foundation. Country Meadows donates ten cents for every mile walked by residents to the residents' choice of one of these two charities.
  • Our residents enjoy using interactive computer gaming systems to bowl, golf, play tennis or a game of baseball. We have even staged competitions between different communities.

Life-long learning programs at Country Meadows offer interactive and exciting educational opportunities. On any given day our community calendar includes events like art classes, a lecture given by a local college professor, piano lessons, a field trip to a museum, cooking demonstrations, painting classes and current events discussions.

We encourage residents to remain active and engaged in life both on campus and in the community. We have many ways our residents are encouraged to benefit from connections with other residents and the community. It's another way that Life Gets Better at Country Meadows.

Country Meadows of Lancaster is a pet-friendly community. Many residents bring their pets from home or adopt new animals. Others enjoy the community's pets. We even have Pet Coordinators on many campuses to help with care if you are away.

We enjoy getting off campus for local activities. Some of our local favorites include:

  • Saturday Country Rides. What starts as a “destination unknown” always ends at a favorite Lancaster spot – like Muddy Run Park, a flower show, or the Central Market in downtown Lancaster.
  • The greater Lancaster area is rich with culture and things to do. Sight and Sound Theater, Dutch Apple Theater and the American Music Theatre are favorite places to catch a show.
  • The Long’s Park Art & Craft Festival is a regional Labor Day tradition that we love!

Country Meadows encourages its residents to remain involved with their local community through Purposeful Service. There are Volunteer Outreach programs with elementary schools, hospitals, senior centers and charitable organizations. In addition, residents can contribute to on-campus life by teaching a class, staffing the gift shop, watering plants, serving on a resident-led committee or visiting with other residents.

Perhaps some of the most important components of community life at Country Meadows are those instances where our residents give back. Whether it is making sandwiches for the local food bank, tutoring at an after-school reading program, or volunteering in our campus store, the opportunities to connect and share a lifetime of knowledge and experience with others makes life at Country Meadows all the better.
