April is one of our favorite months at Country Meadows: Practice Random Acts of Kindness. Organization co-founder, Mary Jane Leader, made kindness a daily practice and to honor her memory, we dedicate an entire month to going the extra mile. We set aside the month of April for paying-it-forward and looking for the extra opportunities to make the lives of others a little brighter through a simple, kind gesture.
Check out some of the residents and co-workers we caught in the act of kindness so far this month!
Country Meadows of Allentown
While watching news coverage of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, residents expressed interest in learning more about the conflict as well as finding ways to show support.
To show support for the people of Ukraine, residents made sunflower pins and magnets with yellow sunflowers and blue ribbons and distributed them to neighbors and co-workers. According to Director of Dynamic Living Danyell Horst, “Sunflowers are Ukraine’s national flower—a symbol of peace.”

Country Meadows of Bethlehem
Our Bethlehem residents were busy with several kind acts both on and off campus:
- Handing out white carnations to the students of Northampton Community College to welcome them back to in-person instruction.
- Preparing healthy dinners from our culinary crews (bi-weekly) to the firefighters of Nancy Run Volunteer Fire Company (who recently responded to a fire here on campus).
- Creating get well cards for one of our campus directors.
- Delivering flowers to the Arc of Lehigh Valley day program residents & staff.

Bethlehem Nursing & Rehab Center
The Nursing Center residents along with our co-workers made “bunny donuts” and surprised the East Allen Township Ambulance Corp. and Forks Township Vol. fire company. They brought them the donuts and coffee as a random act of kindness. Residents also sent thank-you cards to local schools thanking the teachers for their service to our young generations.

Country Meadows of Forks in Easton
Residents spent an entire week making personalized pouches for co-workers to show their appreciation. This simple act of kindness brought many smiles to lots of faces.

Country Meadows of Frederick
Residents and co-workers collected items for and packed blessings bags filled with treats and inspirational note cards. They will be given to local charities to help support people in need.

Country Meadows of Hershey
Residents filled Easter eggs with candy to donate to a local organization, CocoaPacks, Inc., which provides food items to children in the Derry Township School District who face food insecurity.

Country Meadows of South Hills
During a practice fire alarm, a furry IL resident named Robbie got scared and jumped in resident Audrey’s lap. She soothed and calmed the dog until his owner could take him back to the apartment. Her simple act of love and kindness meant the world to the frightened furball!
Also in South Hills, residents voted to support the Southbridge Ambulance Service by delivering baskets of bagels. They wanted to express their appreciation for the EMTs who show up during health emergencies on campus and show kindness to residents.

Country Meadows of West Shore
Residents are sponsoring “Pepper,” a dog that lives at Helen Krause Animal Rescue. He cannot be adopted because of health issues. Residents enjoy spoiling Pepper and recently made him a fleece tie blanket.

Country Meadows of Wyomissing
Our residents hopped to it by filling the eggs with goodies for the campus Easter Egg Hunt. Their kindness in volunteering their time made for a great event of our families.

Country Meadows of York-South (Leader Heights)
Residents are giving all their bingo winnings to second grade students at a local elementary school. Their teacher will be using the kind donation to reward her students when they are kind to others.

Country Meadows of York-West
In honor of Mary Jane Leader’s birthday, residents used one of her favorite recipes for Quiche Lorraine. They made it from scratch and shared with other residents who are grateful for their hard work as well as the delicious treat.
